Liontown recognised at Energy & Mines Summit 2025
09/05/2025Liontown returned to the Energy and Mines Summit in Perth on 6–7 May 2025 for its 9th annual Australian conference, The Decarbonised Mine, which brought together over 700 experts from mining, renewable energy, finance, government, and related sectors. Amid challenging financial conditions, volatile commodity prices, and rising operational costs, the event focused on transforming decarbonisation targets into practical solutions for the mining industry.
The agenda addressed key issues such as financing and implementing decarbonisation strategies, integrating renewables and storage, electrifying fleets, navigating evolving policy, supporting nature-positive initiatives, powering the Pilbara, and collaborating with Traditional Owners—offering actionable insights through case studies and interactive discussions.
Liontown COO Adam Smits presents: Setting a Renewable Energy Benchmark in Mining
Liontown had a notable presence across both days of the summit. Chief Operating Officer Adam Smits was invited to present a joint case study alongside Dominic DaCruz, Executive – ESG and Stakeholder Engagement at Zenith Energy. The case study, titled Setting a Renewable Energy Benchmark in Mining, discussed the key drivers for implementing the 95MW Kathleen Valley hybrid power system, our approach to engagement and agreements with traditional owners aimed at fostering equity and delivering socio-economic benefits, and setting a new standard for what’s achievable when integrating renewables into a mining operation.
Liontown wins Excellence in Renewable Energy in Mining Award
During the summit’s Decarbonised Mine Awards Gala, Liontown took home the award for Excellence in Renewable Energy in Mining. Head of Sustainability, Strategy and Compliance Clair Wilson accepted the award on behalf of the Company. This accolade was awarded for setting a new benchmark in high-penetration renewable energy for sustainable, off-grid mining.
The following day, Clair was invited to attend the Award Winners Roundtable panel to share insights into the challenges Liontown has faced as well as its collaborative effort with the Tjiwarl people and other key contractors such as Zenith Energy. During the discussion, Clair highlighted valuable lessons learned from Liontown’s Journey so far and outlined the company’s next step towards achieving its decarbonisation goals – the development of a comprehensive Decarbonisation Strategy.
