Liontown Joins The Leonora Golden Gift
03/06/2025Liontown proudly stepped up to sponsor and participate in this year’s Leonora Golden Gift in support of the local community near our Kathleen Valley Lithium Operation.
Held annually, the Leonora Golden Gift is a celebration of athleticism, culture and regional pride for the Goldfields community. For Liontown, it was an opportunity to not only cheer from the sidelines but also get in on the action.
Coordinated by Community and Aboriginal Employment Lead Jeremy Neesham and Community and Aboriginal Advisor Lily Grace, Liontown Emergency Response Team volunteers Dan McCall, Lara Napier, Mahan Lari, Harry Robertson and Linda Voravong also laced up their boots and volleys and competed on the day.
The races were a bigger challenge than the team expected. Metallurgy Superintendent Lara Napier laughed, “None of us were as fit as we thought we were!” That didn’t stop the team from giving it their all, with Lily taking out first place in the women’s work boot race.
For Lara, the event was about more than just fun and fitness. “It was awesome to be part of Liontown’s first-ever competition. I really enjoyed the physical challenge and seeing the team learn and adapt under pressure,” she said. “It was a great opportunity to show the skills and effort we’ve all been putting in as a team, and to see how far we’ve come as we work towards our full potential.”
Plant Metallurgist Mahan Lari echoed the sentiment: “I was stoked to be part of the team representing Liontown down at Leonora. It was great to see everyone getting around the event and showing our ability to work together – even when things didn’t go to plan.”
Liontown’s participation in the Golden Gift is just one of the ways we’re working alongside the Leonora community. With a strong focus on local employment and training, we’re committed to creating shared value and long-term benefits for the communities we operate in.
