Liontown Resources Limited is a mineral exploration company largely focussed on lithium in Tanzania, and Australia.
In November 2015, the Company announced the acquisition of the Mohanga Lithium-Tantalum Project located in central Tanzania. The diversification was complementary to the Company’s existing gold interests in Tanzania. Since then, the company has acquired additional mineral properties with known lithium occurrences, including Bynoe, located in Northern Territory, and Kathleen Valley and Lake Percy, both located in Western Australia.
Since acquiring these projects, Liontown has undertaken an aggressive exploration program that includes surface mapping and trench sampling at Mohanga which returned grades of up to 5.2% Li2O and 0.12% Ta2O5. At Bynoe, Liontown has successfully drilled underneath historic tantalum mines for thick zones of lithium mineralization and has an additional 50 pegmatites to test. The company has identified outcropping lithium and tantalum mineralization at Kathleen Valley and intends to initiate a maiden drilling program there in 2017.
These acquisitions signal the start of a diversification into a strategic metals sector which Liontown believes to have has significant growth potential.
Liontown still owns and operates the Jubilee Reef Gold Project in northern Tanzania, where a maiden Inferred Mineral Resource (JORC) of approximately 8.5Mt @ 1.4g/t gold (~390,000 ounces) has been estimated. There are a number of untested drill targets at Jubilee Reef and the potential to expand the existing resource is good.
