Liontown Resources Limited is a mineral exploration company largely focussed on lithium in Tanzania, and Australia.
In November 2015, the Company announced the acquisition of the Mohanga Lithium-Tantalum Project located in central Tanzania. The diversification was complementary to the Company’s existing gold interests in Tanzania. Since then, the company has acquired additional mineral properties with known lithium occurrences, including Bynoe, located in Northern Territory, and Kathleen Valley located in Western Australia.
Liontown has confirmed significant spodumene-related, pegmatite-hosted lithium mineralisation at the three properties referred to above and the aim of ongoing work is to define JORC compliant resources in the short to midterm.
The diversification into the strategic battery-related metals sector is based on well documented research which indicates that it has significant growth potential due to the future uptake of electric vehicles and storage of renewal energy generated by wind and solar methods.
Liontown will also pursue opportunities for other batter-related metals including cobalt and vanadium.
Liontown still owns and operates the Jubilee Reef Gold Project in northern Tanzania, where a maiden Inferred Mineral Resource (JORC) of approximately 8.5Mt @ 1.4g/t gold (~390,000 ounces) has been estimated. There are a number of untested drill targets at Jubilee Reef and the potential to expand the existing resource is good. The Company is reviewing options to advance this project without being distracted from its focus on lithium and other battery-related metals.
